Rotary Healthcare Day is a joint club event organized by all the nine Rotary Clubs in Kota Kinabalu. This is the second edition of Rotary Healthcare Day. The theme for this year's program is “Genital Cancer Awareness”.  This particular theme was chosen because of the general reluctance among the public, even those well-educated, to openly discuss about issues pertaining to the genital system. This reluctance coupled with fear of losing one's sexual activity leads to delayed diagnosis of genital cancers, both male and female, with grave consequences.

Dr. Tan Bee Hwai, Director of Sabah Women and Children's Hospital, was the Guest of Honour. Six distinguished speakers, three from KPJ Sabah Specialist Hospital and one each from UMS School of Medicine, Sabah Women and Children's Hospital and Gleneagles Kota Kinabalu spoke on cancers of uterus, ovaries, cervix, prostate, testis and penis. Rotarians from all the nine Rotary Clubs in Kota Kinabalu and spouses members of the Press and members of the public were in attendance.

Corporate supporters for the event were Management of Suria Sabah, KPJ Sabah Specialist Hospital, Gleneagles Kota Kinabalu, MSD Malaysia, and other non-medical vendors - Teck Guan Trading, Jinsan Hardware, Razzol Sdn. Bhd. and Kian Kwan Sdn. Bhd.
 
Among women, cancer of cervix ranks next only to breast cancer as the most lethal cancer. The latest breakthrough - vaccination in preventing cervical cancer would be one of the highlights of today's program. Among men, prostate cancer is being increasingly diagnosed as more sensitive methods of detection are being devised.

In creating public awareness about these diseases, Rotary is fulfilling its role as a leading service organization. One of the six major areas of focus of Rotary International is Disease Prevention and Eradication, an important need towards achieving the goal of sustainable development. Knowledge is empowerment. Empowerment in turn, leads to Making A Difference - in one' s own life and the lives of others.
