Three Mountain Charity Climb

Organizer: Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu (RCKK).

The Cause: Cataract is the commonest cause of blindness in the developing world. In Malaysia, the incidence of bilateral blindness due to cataract is 0.5%. The highest incidence recorded is in Sabah -1.1% (Source: National Eye Survey 2014). It is due to lack of awareness, low access to specialist eye services and poverty. Intraocular lenses or IOLs cost RM500-6000 depending on brand and sophistication. The Charity Climb intends to raise funds for aiding the poorer sections of our people in Sabah who are in need of cataract surgery.

The Climb: Sabah is home to Malaysia's three highest mountains - the iconic Kinabalu, Trusmadi and Tambuyukon. The climbers intend to scale all three mountains serially from Nov 4 -12.

Participants: Eight climbers are participating –
1.    Dr. Ravi Mandalam (President, Rotary Club of KK & Radiologist, KPJ Sabah)
